How to Remove C2PA & AI Metadata From Images and Video (2026 Guide)

A step-by-step guide to stripping C2PA Content Credentials, EXIF and GPS from photos, PDFs and MP4/MOV video — losslessly and entirely in your browser.

Every photo, video and PDF you share can carry a hidden trail: GPS coordinates, device serial numbers, author names and — for anything AI-touched — a C2PA Content Credentials manifest. Here's how to clean all of it, on your own device, in about thirty seconds.

What gets removed

  • C2PA / Content Credentials — the signed provenance manifest AI tools embed.
  • EXIF & GPS — camera model, serial, timestamps and the exact location a photo was taken.
  • PDF metadata — author, title, producer and embedded XMP packets.
  • AI text markers — invisible zero-width characters that can tag writing as machine-generated.

Step by step

1. Open the C2PACleaner tool in your browser. There's nothing to install and no account to create.

2. Drop in a photo, video or PDF — or paste text into the Text tab.

3. Review what's inside. Before anything is changed, the tool lists the metadata it found so you can see exactly what you're about to remove.

4. Download the clean file. The original never leaves your device.

Which formats are supported

Images (JPEG, PNG, WebP), video (MP4, MOV) and PDF documents. For plain text, the Text tool clears invisible Unicode characters and tell-tale smart punctuation.

Is it lossless?

Yes — only the metadata bytes are removed; the pixels and video frames are untouched, so there's no quality loss. We explain why in Does removing metadata reduce image quality?.

Want to keep your camera info but drop only the location? The C2PACleaner mobile app has a location-only mode that removes just the GPS and leaves the rest of your EXIF in place.

Why it's private

There's no server in the loop. All reading and cleaning runs client-side in your browser, so your files are never uploaded, stored or logged — and it keeps working even offline. See the FAQ for more on how that works.
